Artistic Director Kim, Sung-Ho
Dear all!
This is Sung-ho Kim, Artistic Director of
CHANGWON SCULPTURE BIENNALE 2020.
This upcoming event in 2020 is the 5th event of the Changwon Sculpture Biennale, which was launched in 2012. The Biennale is based on the 2010 MOONSHIN International Sculpture Symposium that was held to commemorate the integration of Changwon, Masan and Jinhae city as a foothold city of the Southeast of Korea.
Changwon is referred to as a city of sculpture where prominent Korean sculptors such as Chong-Young Kim (1915 - 1982), Shin Moon (1923 - 1995), Jong-Bae Park (1935 - ), Suk-Won Park (1942 - ) and Young-Won Kim(1947 - ) who cultivated their art in the city.
I shall praise the former Chairmen and Artistic Directors of the Biennale for their effort – Bong-Gu Kim / Seong-Rok Seo of the first event in 2012, Yi-Soon Kim / Tae-Man Choi of the second in 2014, Yong-Su Shin / Jin-Sup Yoon for the third event in 2016 and Yong-Su Shin / Bummo Youn for the fourth in 2018. With the great achievement of the previous team, Changwon Sculpture Biennale stands out as an active forum of international contemporaneous sculpture. As the Artistic Director, I will do my best to make a success of the 5th event in 2020 with the chairman of steering committee, Moo-Hyun Hwang. The theme of this Biennale is “Non-Sculpture - Light of Flexible”. Viewers will be able to experience many unconventional sculptures that are quite different from typical monumental sculpture. I look forward to meeting all of you at this event.
This event is for you, the viewers, and, along with the participating artists and curators, my role is to prepare this event to ensure your greatest satisfaction at the 5th Sculpture Biennale.
Thank you.
