CHUNG, Hyun, Wooden Telegraph Pole, 2006, wood, steel, coal-tal 1726 × 497 × 597 cm, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art collection
CHUNG, Hyun aims to unveil the energy of life via the medium of sculpture. Six wooden poles in this work evokes the same kind of power that characterizes the artist’s works on the human body. Wooden Telegraph Pole was once a functional object, a pole for supplying electricity, and then stayed at the entrance of the MMCA (The National Museum of Contemporary Art) until 2007, then resided at the Gyeonggi Museum of Art as a permanant collection. In this exhibition, the work stays in Changwon for a while, evoking the movement of sculpture and the time and space of its past, present, and future.
