Donghwan Kam,
Between Paper and Rock, 2024, poetry-writing class, T-shirt, zine, performance, Commissioned by the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2024
Donghwan Kam explores the sense of “community” that is created when people from different backgrounds intersect and accumulate time together in an open space. Kam’s new work for the biennale,
Between Paper and Rock, takes the form of a frame within which poetry and sculpture collide. With poet Soyeon Kim, Kam organizes a “poetry workshop” in which each participant creates a poem using personal memories and stories of the city around them. These “poems,” are expanded via the artist’s own body through a sense of “engraving” — the origin point of all sculpture — as he traverses Changwon and its sculptures, appearing and disappearing sporadically throughout the city.
