Hyun bhin Kwon, Mulu, 2024, limestone, ink, dimensions variable
Hyun bhin Kwon draws upon the eons of temporality innate to all minerals, sourcing from their flat, fragmentary pieces. Mulu, made of broken limestone slabs, reflects the virtuality of passing time, images, and memory, offering light projections of the material’s past, present and future. The moment of manufacture pressed into each flat, impersonal fragments metaphorizes a part of its past as a once-anonymous stone, right on the cusp of becoming sculpture.
