Jason Wee, Stand. Move. (A Repose), 2024, fabric panels suspended over metal frames, dimensions variable, Supported by the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2024
Jason Wee’s work Stand. Move. (A Repose) is an installation that activates a dialog between site-specificity and the emotional demands of space. The installation, a maze of fabric is reminiscent of a theater set while also alluding to the ominous experience of barriers and fences. The accompanying images explore questions of legibility in relation to the phenomenology of navigation and wayfinding. Wee’s language and architecture of barriers convey a variety of meanings: privacy, control and protection, division and difference. The poetics of powerlessness, the attention to our impasse, and the staging of individual movement in light of coercive influence all stand as timely and provocative interventions.
