Kim Sungwhoi·Park Chankeuk·Suk Jongsoo·Sin Yongsik, Light of the Millennium, 2000, corten steel, stainless steel, bronze, 2190 × 360 × 360 cm, Changwon Cultural Foundation collection
Light of the Millennium is a sculpture with a vertical line of sight that extends from the basement of Seongsan Art Hall all the way to the outdoor plaza. Two curved pillars symbolizing Changwon are flanked by two hands, clasped together. The materials of the columns are bronze and corten steel, which is intended to express the character of the area as an industrial city. Corten steel is notable for its natural reddish patina, formed over time. On the inside of the column, bronze figures are intertwined with each other, rising toward the ground to represent “citizens enjoying culture.”
