Seongsan Art Hall
Luo Jr Shin, Tomato Seeds Pass Through the Body and Germinate, 2024, fired sewage sludge, volcanic clay, acrylic medium, gauze, fiberglass, resin, pigment, approx. 40 × 49 × 6 cm ( × 12pcs ), Commissioned by the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2024
In this work, Luo Jr Shin, who has been structuring a new linguistic and emotional framework for contemporary art through a range of different activities, recasts the kitchen area in the basement of Seongsan Art Hall as a space of total transformation and creation. Tomato Seeds Pass Through the Body and Germinate, a new work, consists of the relationship between the materials in play and the transformations and tensions of the pre-existing space. In particular, the artist’s architectural lighting design, which involved installing a grid in the ceiling of the kitchen, allows a stealthy entry into and exit from the building’s interior. Through the work of Luo Jr Shin, we find ourselves navigating both the passageways of the building and those fleshy, juicy passageways that recall the viscera of the human body.
