Rather than being read as words, Michael Dean’s sculptures function as to linguistic elements, which in turn leads to associative linkages with yet more words. Part of the artist’s ongoing Garden of Delete series, LOL Garden of Delete is a variation created by Dean while keeping the title of the Biennale — silent apple — in mind. His work is characterized by recurring references to the human body, including body parts like tongues, arms, legs, and fingers. The word LOL (laugh out loud), written vertically in the exhibition space and facing the sunlit windows, is laid horizontally on the floor through the casting of its own shadow.
