Soyoung Chung, Humidity, 2023, glazed ceramic, dimensions variable, Production Supporting: Clayarch Gimhae Museum, Lee eun yeoung

Chung responds to the shifting climatic conditions of different natural terrains, reshaping them into his own sculptural language. The site, an outdoor waterside space, functions as a place where material objects and the environment that surrounds them actively collide, a place where outside and inside coexist. Humidity, a sculpture of summer fruits turned to stone, floats on the surface of the water, mutating and transforming into yet another state.

Soyoung Chung, Variable, 2024, paint on wood, 240-720 cm ( × 10pcs ), Supported by the 7th Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2024

Spread across the pond of Seongsan Art Hall, this work by Chung showcases the intersection of man-made and natural landscapes. Variable, a wooden stick with graduated markings, faces the movement of wind and water currents, dissolving, over time, into the landscape surrounding it. This flow of change asks what will be left behind after humans disappear, serving as a metaphor for an unpredictable future amidst the climate crisis.
