Young In Hong
Seongsan Art Hall
Young In Hong, Looking down from the sky, 2017, embroidered line on cotton(viscose rayon threads), 160 × 43 × 4cm ( × 5pcs )
Young In Hong’s Woven and Echoed is a jumble of reversed and fragmented words and sentences. The texts in play draw on quotes from women who worked in Korea’s textile factories in the 1970s and 1980s, reconstructed via weaving into a large tapestry that hangs from the ceiling. Through this deconstructive rewriting, the artist aims to poetically illuminate the individual narratives of women workers that have been obscured by the male-dominated macro-narrative, liberating them from the reductive approaches of historical writing
