Changwon is located in the southernmost part of Gyeongsangnam-do in the southeast of the Korean Peninsula. And Ulsan, Busan, and Sacheon. It is the center of the industrial economy in central Gyeongnam area.
It was developed as a planned city in 1973, and Changwon City will be established in 2010 with the integration of Changwon City, Masan City, and Jinhae City.
It has a unique history and tradition around Gyeongnam coast. In addition, Changwon is a 'city of sculptures' that carries prominent sculptors of the modern times contemporary area.
This is because it is the hometown of outstanding masterpieces such as Kim, Chong young, Moon Shin, Park Jong bae, Park Suk Won and Kim Young Won.
Such a relationship makes it possible to emphasize the specialization of 'Changwon sculpture'. In 2010, the culture and arts of Changwon will begin the 'Moon Shin International Sculpture Symposium' based on this historical background. Since that Changwon International Art Biennale, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Changwon City, and the Changwon Cultural Foundation, will expand and develop Changwon culture and arts.
In the 1st Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2012, 20 pieces of works of famous sculptors from home and abroad were installed in the 'Dot' Island, located at Happo-gu in Masan. In the 2nd Changwon Sculpture Biennale, 41 artists(teams) from 11Asian nations including Korea, Mongolia, Vietnam, Iran, India, Indonesia, Japan, China, Thailand and Taiwan participated and displayed their works across the city of Masan included the Moonshin Art Museum, the Dot Island, the central wharf of Masan Part and Chang-dong.
The 3rd exhibition in 2016, invited more than 100 artists representing the contemporary pieces Changwon will become 'Contemporary World Contemporary Sculpture'.

Chong young and Moon Shin, who is important in the history of Changwon sculpture.
The theme of the exhibition, < Balance of Non-Sculpting >, which combines the spirit of Non-Sculpting and the balance of harmony. In this way, we will establish the identity of Changwon sculpture with the spiritual heritage of representative art of Changwon Sculpture Biennale, and establish an opportunity for Changwon to firmly establish itself as an international sculpture city.
The theme of < The Balance of Non-Sculpting > may seem like a contradictory and paradoxical expression, but "Non-Sculpting" is a natural state that is not artificial, but a concept that pursues a state of harmony with nature to be.
In addition to formative works based on these themes, we will focus on various aspects and discourses of 'sculpture', which expands the sculptural realm of contemporary social reality. Considering the form and content, we pay attention to the expansion of expressive media and methods. In the aspect of contents, I intend to organize exhibitions mainly on discourse presentations, ie, works that include 'ideology' and 'problem raising'.
The exhibition format is divided into 'outdoor exhibition' and 'indoor exhibition', ie, sculpture park and gallery exhibition, and 'outdoor exhibition' is divided into 'permanent installation works' and 'temporary installation works'.
The exhibition of the art museum sets up a three-dimensional work and a flat work with the subtitle "exception." Special programs provide spectators with a variety of new 'attractions' in another 'extreme' form in the 'sculpture' area.
We will try to expand and extend the existing limited sculpture area and share it with the public enjoyment of art through communication with more active visitors. Furthermore, we would like to position it as a 'Global City of Culture and Art' as a 'sustainable playground for culture and arts', 'a world-sculptural city', and 'Changwon'.
