제3회 창원조각비엔날레의 새로운 도약을 위하여

안녕하십니까?
제3회 창원조각비엔날레 총감독을 맡은 윤진섭입니다. 반갑습니다.

어느덧 창원조각비엔날레가 3회째를 맞이하였습니다. 그동안 수고해 주신 관계자 여러분의 헌신적인 노력으로 창원조각비엔 날레가 이제 자리를 잡아가는 모습이 완연합니다. 저는 제3회 비엔날레의 총감독으로서 무한한 영광과 함께 한편으로는 막중한 책임감을 느끼고 있습니다. 어떻게 하면 전람회장을 찾아주신 관객들에게 조각의 진면목을 보여드릴까 하고 늘 노심초사하고 있습니다. 그 결과가 어떻게 나올지 현재로선 알 수 없습니다만, 마지막 순간까지 최선을 다할 것을 이 자리를 빌어 약속드립니다.

이번 비엔날레의 주제는 <억조창생(億造創生)>입니다. 원래 ‘억조창생(億兆蒼生)’이란 말은 ‘만백성’을 의미합니다만, 저는 말을 조금 바꿔서 “수없이 많은 사물에 생명을 부여한다.”는 뜻으로 바꿔보았습니다. 즉 예술가들의 창의성에 이를 해석하는 관객들의 상상력을 덧붙임으로써 일방적인 예술 감상이 아니라, 관객이 해석하고 의미를 부여하는, 곧 관객의 입장에 선 예술을 생각해 보았습니다.

관객은 이제 불청객이 아닙니다. 예술작품의 감상에 따른 해석과 소통의 주체입니다. 페이스북과 트위터로 대변되는 디지털 혁명의 시대, 다시 말해서 SNS의 시대에 걸맞게 예술작품의 창작과 감상, 소통, 전파 등 모든 것이 모바일 폰으로 이루어지고 있는 것이 바로 오늘의 현실입니다. 다가 올 제3회 창원조각비엔날레는 모바일 폰으로 무장한 관객들이 각자 홍보요원이 되어 행사를 홍보하게 될 것입니다. 오늘, 예술행사의 주인은 바로 관객 여러분입니다. 적극적인 동참과 협조를 바랍니다. 감사합니다.

For a new leap forward of the 3rd Changwon Sculpture Biennale

Welcome to the 2016 Changwon Sculpture Biennale.
I’m Yoon Jin-seop, Director General of the 2016 Changwon Sculpture Biennale. The 3rd Changwon Sculpture Biennale will be held this year. Thanks to dedicated efforts of all staff members so far, the biennale has established itself as a renowned sculpture art exhibition. While it is surely an honor for me to assume the role of Director General at the 3rd biennale, I also feel a great sense of responsibility. Utmost efforts are being exerted to present the very essence of sculptures to the visitors. Although visitors need to wait and see until the result will come out, I promise that the best efforts will be made until the end.
This year’s theme is <Eok-Jo-Chang-Saeng (億造創生)>. The original phrase ‘Eok-Jo-Chang-Saeng (億兆蒼生)’ means numerous people. Two letters in the phrase were replaced to add a special meaning that “numerous objects generated and created with life”. By adding visitors’ imagination to the creativity of artists, the art will be interpreted and given with new meanings by the audience, rather than an unilateral appreciation of the art. It would be the art from the perspective of the audience.
The audience is no longer an unwelcome guest. The audience interpret and communicate after appreciating artworks. We’re living in an era of digital revolution, which is represented by Facebook and Twitter. In this age of social media, artworks are created, appreciated, communicated and distributed via mobile phone. In the upcoming 2016 Changwon Sculpture Biennale, all the audience carrying a mobile phone will be a honorary ambassador to promote the exhibition. Today, the host of an art event is the audience. In that regard, your active participation and support will be highly appreciated. Thank you.
